We know that the perimeter of the rectangle is 156 units and we must find the length of sid BC.

We need to use that the perimeter is the sum of all sides that the figure has.

Since we have a rectangle we have two times its base and the height

P=2b+2h=156

In this case we can see that:

- base (b) : 4x

- height (h): 5x - 3

Now, replacing in the formula

2(4x)+2(5x-3)=156

Then, we must solve the equation for x

\begin{gathered} 8x+10x-6=156 \\ 18x-6=156 \\ 18x=156+6 \\ x=(162)/(18) \\ x=9 \end{gathered}

Finally, seeing that BC = 5x -3 we can replace x = 9 and find its length

\begin{gathered} \bar{BC}=5(9)-3 \\ \bar{BC}=45-3 \\ \bar{BC}=42 \end{gathered}

ANSWER:

BC = 42
