Mendel’s A gene (purple flowers) does not code for the enzyme chalcone synthase but it does code for a protein required for it’s production. If the gene is mutated the protein can’t be produced. What are the implications of such a mutation, on the pea plant?

Purple flower is dominant to white flower. The purple color is because of the anthocyanin. Anthocyanin requires an enzyme chalcone synthase. If the gene undergoes mutation, the protein responsible for the coding of the gene is not produced thereby not producing the enzyme Anthocyanin responsible for the purple color. The color of the flower will be white. The white color is a recessive trait due to mutation.
