The Equation of a Line

We are given the equation of the line:

y = -2x + 7

It's required to complete the ordered pairs (5,y) and (x,1)

In the first ordered pair, the value of x is x=5. Thus we substitute it into the equation of the line as follows:

y = -2(5) + 7

Operating:

y = -10 + 7

y = -3

Thus the complete ordered pair is (5,-3)

Now for the pair (x,1) we are given y=1. Substituting:

1 = -2x + 7

Subtracting 7:

1 - 7 = -2x

Calculating:

-6 = -2x

Dividing by -2:

x = -6 / (-2)

x = 3

The complete ordered pair is (3,1)
