For this question we will use the following formula for the discriminant of a quadratic function:

\Delta=b^2-4ac.

Where a, b, and c are the coefficients of the quadratic equation:

ax^2+bx+c=0.

Substituting a=1, b=4, and c=7 we get:

\Delta=4^2-4(1)(7)=16-28=-12.

Answer: The discriminant tells us there are two complex solutions.
