we have that

A is at -3

B is at 3

so

segment AB=3-(-3)=6 units

we have that

C is 1/3 of the way from A to B

Multiply 1/3 by the length of segment AB

so

(1/3)6=2 units

Find the coordinate of point C

Adds 2 units to the coordinate of point A

-3+2=-1

therefore

C is at -1
