Given the expression;

\mleft(x+5\mright)^2=54

The first thing to do is to remove the square on the left hand side of the expression and to do this we will have to square root both sides as shown;

\sqrt[]{\mleft(x+5\mright)^2}=\sqrt[]{54}

This square root willl cancel out the square at the left hand side of the equation to have;

x+5\text{ = }\sqrt[]{54}

Therefore the required first step is to TAKE THE SQUARE ROOT OF BOTH SIDES OF THE EQUATION.
