The southern economy was going to tank with the outlaw of slavery, their economy relied heavily on the use of slaves to farm cotton.
The southern states also wanted the power to nullify laws made by the federal government (so basically, they wanted to overturn the federal governments laws on slavery)
The southern states also highly disapproved of the election of Abraham Lincoln
