5/4 pounds of candy for each friend.

1) Let's turn that mixed number into an improper fraction, to make it easier for our calculations. Keeping the denominator, and then multiplying it by the whole number and add to the Mixed Number numerator, like this:

6\text{ }(1)/(4)=(4\cdot6+1)/(4)=(25)/(4)

2) So now, we can divide that fraction by 5 multiplying 25/4 by the reciprocal of 5:

((25)/(4))/(5)=(25)/(4)*(1)/(5)=(5)/(4)

3) So each friend is going to get 5/4 pounds of candy.
