For the expression

a+b^2

a=14 and b=6

Replace the expression with the given values for the variables

\begin{gathered} 14+6^2 \\ 14+36 \\ 50 \end{gathered}

Note: remember the order of operations, solve the exponent first and then the addition.

For the expression

a-2b

Just as before, replace with a=14 and b=6

\begin{gathered} 14-2\cdot6 \\ 14-12 \\ 2 \end{gathered}

Note: remember the order of operations, the multiplication goes first and then the subtraction.
