1) Exothermic. This means that a reaction releases energy.

If energy is absorbed, the reaction is endothermic. So, B is endothermic.

When the system absorbs energy from the surroundings, the surroundings get cold.

In an exothermic reaction, the system loses. This energy is gained by the surroundings. Since the system is losing energy the enthalpy is negative.
