we have the equation

x-(1)/(3)y=4

the equation in slope-intercept form is

y=mx+b

so

Isolate the variable y in the given equation

step 1

subtract x both sides

\begin{gathered} x-(1)/(3)y-x=4-x \\ \\ -(1)/(3)y=4-x \end{gathered}

step 2

Multiply by -3 both sides

\begin{gathered} (-3)\cdot(-(1)/(3)y)=-3(4-x) \\ y=-12+3x \\ y=3x-12 \end{gathered}
