The area in blue is equal to the complete area minus the area in white in the middle

The big rectangle is 16 by 6, so its area is 16x6 = 96 square inches

The small white rectangle is 4 by 2, so it area is 4x2 = 8 square inches

The area in blue = 96 - 8 = 88 square inches

Answer:

88 square inches
