The first book has a thickness of 2 3/7 inches

2 3/7 in decimal is :

2(3)/(7)=2.429

The second book has a thickness of 3.56 inches

The height when stacked together will be the sum of their thickness. This will be :

2.429+3.56=5.989

Rounding to the nearest hundredth,

5.989\sim5.99

The answer is 5.99 inches
