Sara is looking at the equation -3x+14=18-5x She agrees with the claim that big sides of the equal sign with equal each other as long as x=2. Use substitution to help her prove she is correct.

-3x+ 14 = 18-5x

-3*(2) + 14= 18 - 5*(2) Replacing x=2 in the equation

-6 + 14 = 18 - 10 Multiplying

8 = 8 Subtracting on both sides

After replacing x= 2 we find that the result on each side of the equation is the same, therefore, Sara was right.
