These ecological relationships benefit or affect in different ways the organisms of each part. For example, in mutualisms such as that of ants and aphids, while ants protect aphids from predators, aphids give ants some needed nutrients.

On the other hand, in the tick-dog interaction, dogs result affected because of the tick action of feeding upon their blood.
