What is more 1/4 of a pie or 3/12 of a pie? Explain show mathematical work or a drawing to support answer

We have two fractions:


(1)/(4)\text{ and }(3)/(12)

But, if we look at the second one, we can see that numerator and denominator are divisible by 3. Then we should simplify the fraction to compare it.

We divide top and bottom by 3:


(3/3)/(12/3)=(1)/(4)

Now we can see that the two fractions are equal! Then the answer is neither are bigger than the other, They're both the same portion of a pie.
