After Harold cuts his hair, it is 3.25 inches long. Just before his next hair cut, his hair measures 5.5 inches. Harold's rate of hair growth is 0.5 inch per month. Which equation can be used to find m, the number of months it has been between the haircuts?

Given :

The length of hair after cut = 3.25 inches

The length of hair before cut = 5.5 inches

Harold's rate of hair growth is 0.5 inch per month

Let m is the number of months between the haircuts

so, the equation used to find m will be :


0.5\cdot m=5.5-3.25

Solve for m :


\begin{gathered} 0.5m=2.25 \\ \\ m=(2.25)/(0.5)=4.5 \end{gathered}

So, the number of months between the haircuts = 4.5
