4x=42

In order to solve the equation, there must be a division made on the left side in order to leave the variable by itself, however, since this is an equality it means that whatever happens on one side needs to happen on the contrary side of the equal sign in order to keep the equality; in this case, a division by 4 is made on both sides:

(4x)/(4)=(42)/(4)

simplify,

\begin{gathered} x=(42)/(4) \\ x=10.5 \end{gathered}

Answer:

x=10.5
