Teresa is making a small sign in the shape of a triangle for her store. She wants the height of the triangle to be 8 inches. The area of the sign must be at least 24 square inches. (The sign has to be seen from the sidewalk.) Write an inequality that describes the possible base lengths (in inches) of the triangle. Use b for the base length of the triangular sign.

The area of the triangle = 0.5 x base x height

Given: the height of the triangle = 8 inches

And,The area of the sign must be at least 24 square inches.

so,

Let the base length = b

So,


0.5\cdot b\cdot8<24

Solve for b:


4b<24

Divide both sides by 4


b<6
