Homeostasis refers to the tendency toward an equilibrium between interdependent elements, being a term used to talk about any process that living things may need too maintain stable conditions for survival. It's also because of homeostasis that there are molecules and ions flowing through the plasma membrane, for example, trying to get both environments (inside and outside the cell) in similar concentrations.

Incorrectly functioning organs can create an unbalance in homeostasis, because the organ would not play its role appropriately. As our organs function together, depending on each other (it is also an effect and reason for homeostasis)
