We have a right triangle and we know the measurements for two sides. On triangles like that we can apply Pythagora's theorem, where:

\text{hypothenuse}^2=8^2+5^2
\begin{gathered} \text{hypothenuse}^2=64+25 \\ \text{hypothenuse}^2=89 \\ \text{hypothenuse}=\sqrt[]{89=9.434\text{ cm}} \end{gathered}

The length of the hypothenuse is approximately 9.43 cm
