1) Considering that the coefficient of the x term is a fraction, we need to multiply both sides by another so that we keep with x on the left side.


\begin{gathered} (3)/(4)x=12 \\ (4)/(3)*(3)/(4)x=12*(4)/(3) \\ x=16 \end{gathered}

Note that, since we must always multiply or divide both sides when we do that we end up solving for x.
