Just about everyone has a cell phone, and many rate plans are linear functions of some kind. You and your partner pay 75 dollars a month for your cell phone and 5 cents per minute of usage.

Answer: 75 + 0.05x = phone plan cost

Explanation:

Define the following:

x = number of minutes used

Since you pay $75 upfront at the beginning of each month we have 75 in the equation.

We are given that 5 cents are charged for every minute of use. That's in addition to the $75 paid already. Remember to put 5 cents as 0.05.

⇒ 75 + 0.05x = phone plan cost
