Why not just a single president as the representative in our government ? Why have the branches and level ? Anyone help

1: to prevent a monarch (a king)

2: to make sure that not one branch of government had all the power over its citizens

3: the original government that was used before the Constitution only had one branch of government, and it work out horribly for the U.S.
