How do tectonic plates change the Earth's surface?

When the tectonic plates shift that causes earthquakes and that causes mud/land slides. They can also press against each other and that causes mountains and same can be said for valleys when they go apart. Earth also used to be Pangea but the water caused erosion because of the movement in the plates and now when was continents.
