Compact bone marrow is solid all the way through and contains the Haversian canal. The yellow bone marrow is stored between the compact bone, but is not actually PART OF the compact bone if that makes sense.

The compact bone makes up something like a cylinder, where the yellow bone marrow just happens to be inside. But the cycle der itself (compact bone) is not made of yellow bone marrow.

I hope that helps!
