I am trying to write a scene of a person who stumbles upon people that are a different race than his, and he has only ever seen people of his race. How do I possibly describe that?

Explanation: One day I was walking to get something for me and my sister because I had to babysit her while our mom and dad is at work when I walked to the store I saw people that I'd heard of but never actually believed They were real, I saw someone that was not my race, I was looking at them like I was imagining it. they looked back at me and said "hey kid are you okay do you need help". I responded "yes I'III'mII fine" and looked at their child I asked them if I could play with him later and they said yes!

You could describe their thoughts and reaction, questions they may have, what are they seeing, what makes the other people different. Here's my thought:

I was suprised, I had never seen a person who looked like these people, they didn't look like me at all. Then a man looked at me and smiled and said something that I couldn't understand, I turned and ran. I had to ask father, who were these people, and what language where they speaking.
