Life in a medieval community took place in a number of different places. The vast majority of the population lived in rural areas, where they worked the land and raised animals. A small number of people lived in urban areas, where they worked as artisans or tradespeople. The nobility lived in castles, and the clergy lived in monasteries or cathedrals.
