First, we need to multiply without the decimal point, later on putting the decimal point in the final answer.


314 ×
42 = 13188

Now, count the decimal places in each of the numbers being multiplied. Notice that 3.14 has two decimal places leading from left to right, meanwhile 42 has no decimal places. This being said, count from left to right 2 decimal places starting at 1, then place your decimal point in the answer. Hence, our solution is
131.88
