Hemisphere is derived from the Latin word hemi, which meaning half. As a result, the hemisphere represents half of a sphere. Any circumference of the Earth divides it into two equal halves known as hemispheres.
The equator divides half of the world into northern and southern halves, while an imaginary line going between the poles divides the other half into western and eastern parts.
