instead of describing the character in a straightforward way, the author might show their traits through that character's actions, speech, appearance, or how other characters react to them.

i.e. if the author describes a person walking Into a room , everyone else in that room holds their nose and turns away from him. we can assume the author indirectly wants to let us know that person has some hygiene issues.
