Energy. Lipids have a larger number of carbon-hydrogen bonds compared to carbohydrates. These bonds are responsible for the release of energy when they are broken, in any respiratory substrate. Thus when lipids are metabolized more energy is released as a result of more carbon- hydrogen bonds being broken
