Describe the Mayan writing system. How was it different from the other writing systems in the Americas?

Their form of writing was called Mayan hieroglyphic writing and Mayan hieroglyphic writing, a system of writing used by the Maya people of Mesoamerica until about the end of the 17th century, 200 years after the Spanish conquest of Mexico.

The Maya wrote using 800 individual signs or glyphs, paired in columns that read together from left to right and top to bottom. Maya cartouches included at least three or four glyphs and as many as fifty. Each cartouche contained various glyphs, as well as prefixes and suffixes. There is no Maya alphabet.

A couple of ways it is different from our writing systems because 1) they didn't have an alphabet, 2) they used symbols and signs instead of letters, and they read their signs left to right and bottom to top
