A store reduces the price of a backpack by $5. Then during a 16% off sale, a customer pays $21. What was the original price of the backpack?

Step-by-step explanation:

We know that $21 dollers is the 84% of the price remaining: 84% of x=21

Now divide by 7 on both sides (were doing this so we can than multiply back to 100%): 12% of x=3

Now just multiply both sides by 8 1/3(8 1/3 times 12 is 100): 100% of x=2=25

Remember about that $5 and add that in: 25+5=30

The answer is $30!
