Mountains are a great source for a barrier for any intrusion. Waterways impact trade because in the desert there’s not much water so you have people coming from all over to find water, and you life right by a waterway you can provide water for you and the other person!

Answer:

Mountains are obstacles for trade as it is difficult to build railway systems over mountains, so they must go through mountains. Deserts are also difficult to build railway systems as the conditions tend to be very harsh and dangerous for workers. Waterways could make trade easier a one could trade by boat.
