In chapter 3 of Of Mice and Men, there is a conflict between Carlson and Candy over what to do with Candy's dog. Later on, Curley has conflicts with just about everyone in the bunkhouse. He accuses Slim of sleeping with his wife, to which Slim expresses indignation. Candy and Carlson call Curley a coward, which angers Curley even more. Curley then picks a fight with Lennie, who defends himself by crushing Curley's hand.
