Why are blockbusters films so vital to the survival of the motions pictures industry

Answer: Hollywood spends millions of dollars making them and half their budget to market them. If a movie flops the studio loses money and that can affect their stock price. If a blockbuster movie does well they can make their entire budget back add more money with that movie. They can also make sequels which can be a money maker.
