What happened to the particles when thermal energy was added? What do you think would happen to the particles if thermal energy were removed?

adding thermal energy means the particles will move faster and removing means particles will move slower

When thermal energy is added the particles move faster, spread apart, and its temperature rises. If the thermal energy was removed the particles will slow down, cool, and come back closer together.
