Bob Haldeman resigned in 1973 because of his involvement in the Watergate scandal. As White House Chief of Staff under President Nixon, Haldeman was implicated in the cover-up of the break-in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. The scandal led to a loss of public trust and ultimately resulted in Haldeman's resignation.
