  • Tom has $32 more than Ali → T = A + 32 ... [2]
  • The three of them have $240 altogether → A + J + T = 240 [3]

substitue [1] & [2] to [3]

A + J + T = 240

A + (6A) + (A + 32) = 240

8A + 32 = 240

8A = 240 - 32

A = 208 ÷ 8

= $26
