A solution of zinc chloride is first prepared by reaction of zinc with hydrochloric acid. Further, the aqueous solution of zinc chloride formed is heated to evaporate the water, leaving behind a saturated solution of zinc chloride. On cooling this solution, dry crystals of the salt are formed.
