A company offers two plans for high-speed Internet service. With plan A, you pay $200 for the

modem and $25 per month for service. With plan B, you pay $100 for the modem and $35 per
month for service. After how many months are the total costs of the plans the same?

I believe 10 months until the total cost of the plans are the same.

I typically just write down the total cost for the first month: 200 + 25 = 225 and same goes for the other one.

Then I kept adding the monthly fees until they matched up.

Answer:

10 months

Explanation:

Let's write equations for both options.

Let m = number of months of service

Plan A = 200 + 25m

Plan B = 100+ 35m

So just set those 2 equations equal to each other and solve for m.

200 + 25m = 100 + 35m

25m = 100-200 + 35m

25 m = -100 + 35m

25m - 35m = -100

-10m = -100

m = (-100)/-10

m = 10

After 10 months, the total costs are the same for both plans.

To check your work plug in 10=m for the 2 equations and check that the answers are the same.

Plan A = 200 + 25m = 200 + 25(10) = 200 + 250 = 450

Plan B = 100+ 35m = 100 + 35(10) = 100 + 350 = 450.
