Whether you should say yes or no to joining your friend in a play for a school assignment depends on your personal comfort level and your willingness to step out of your comfort zone. Here are some factors to consider:

1. **Personal Comfort:** Think about how comfortable you are with the idea of acting in front of others. If you're extremely shy and the thought of performing makes you anxious to the point of distress, it's okay to politely decline.

2. **Growth Opportunity:** On the other hand, participating in the play could be an opportunity for personal growth. It can help you build confidence, improve public speaking skills, and overcome shyness.

3. **Supportive Environment:** Consider whether the environment is supportive. If your friend and the teacher are understanding and encouraging, it might make the experience more positive.

4. **Interest:** Think about whether the play topic or assignment interests you. If it's a subject you find intriguing or relevant, it could make the experience more engaging.

5. **Time and Commitment:** Assess whether you have the time and willingness to commit to rehearsals and preparation for the play.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. If you decide to participate, it's a chance to challenge yourself and potentially discover new talents. If you decline, it's important to communicate your reasons honestly and respectfully to your friend and teacher. They should understand and appreciate your decision.
