a particular football team is known to run 30% of its plays to the left and 70% to the right. a linebacker on an opposing team notes that the right guard shifts his stance most of the time (80%)when plays go to the right and that he uses a balanced stance the remainder of the time. When plays go to the left, the guard takes a balanced stance 90% of the time and the shift stance the remaining 10%. Define the following events: L: play goes to the left

L: The play goes to the left. This event occurs 30% of the time.

R: The play goes to the right. This event occurs 70% of the time (since it’s not going to the left).

S: The right guard shifts his stance. This event occurs 80% of the time when the play goes to the right ® and 10% of the time when the play goes to the left (L).

B: The right guard takes a balanced stance. This event occurs 20% of the time when the play goes to the right ® and 90% of the time when the play goes to the left (L).

Please note that for each play, one and only one of the events L and R will occur, and one and only one of the events S and B will occur. These are called mutually exclusive events.
