Answer: slope = -3/2

Explanation

Two points on the diagonal line are (0,0) and (4,-6).

To go from (0,0) to (4,-6) we do two things:

  • Go down 6
  • Go right 4

"Down 6, right 4" means the slope is -6/4 = -3/2

We could also use the slope formula to get the same answer.

(x_1,y_1) = (0,0) \text{ and } (x_2,y_2) = (4,-6)\\\\m = \text{slope} = \frac{\text{rise}}{\text{run}} = \frac{\text{change in y}}{\text{change in x}}\\\\m = \frac{\text{y}_(2) - \text{y}_(1)}{\text{x}_(2) - \text{x}_(1)}\\\\m = (-6 - 0)/(4 - 0)\\\\m = (-6)/(4)\\\\m = -(3)/(2)\\\\

The slope is -3/2
