Explanation:

-15a + 19 - 35 = -84

Combine like terms *in this case would be all numbers without a variable*

19 - 35 = -16 *it’s negative because the 35 is bigger so we use the sign it’s assigned*

Then plug that back into our equation

-15a - 16 = -84

We want the variable on it’s on one side of the equation

So we do the opposite of -16 to move it to the other side of the equation

-15a - 16 = -84

+16 +16

-15a = -68

Once again we take the sign of the bigger number *in this case it’s negative*

Then to get the variable “a” on it’s own we do the opposite of multiplication which is division

To get —> a = 4.5

The answer is a positive because when you divide/multiply two negatives it cancels out to become a positive

Answer = a = 4.5
