The largest mountain in the world in terms of volume is Mauna Loa, located in Hawaii. Mauna Loa is a shield volcano and one of the five major volcanoes that form the Big Island of Hawaii. Its enormous volume results from its low-angle, broad, and gently sloping shape, characteristic of shield volcanoes.
While Mauna Loa's summit is not as high as some other mountains, its volume is immense. It rises about 13,678 feet (4,169 meters) above sea level, but its base extends deep into the ocean floor. When you consider the volume of the mountain that lies below sea level, Mauna Loa's total volume is estimated to be over 19,000 cubic miles (80,000 cubic kilometers). This makes it the largest mountain on Earth in terms of total volume.
