Write an equation for the following transformation of y=x: a vertical stretch by a factor of 2.

Answer: y = 2x

We simply multiply the x by 2 to get 2x on the right hand side. This will vertically stretch the parent function y = x by a factor of 2. Each point on y = x will get twice as tall as before. For instance, the point (7,7) moves to (7,14) which is twice as tall as before.
