The x-intercepts of y = (x-3)^2 - 4 are (5,0) and (1,0). I know how to get (5,0) but can someone explain thoroughly how to get (1,0) as an x-intercept?

Answer:

(x - 3)² - 4 = 0

(x - 3)² = 4

x - 3 = ±2

x - 3 = -2 or x - 3 = 2

x = 1 or x = 5

So the x-intercepts are (1, 0) and (5, 0).
