If BC = x + 16, CD = 18, and BD = 4x − 14, what is BC?

Answer:

32

Explanation:

BD-CD=BC --> (4x − 14) - (18) =x + 16 --> 4x-x=16+18+14 --> 3x=48 --> x=48/3

x=16

BC=16+16=32

(This only works if we suppose that BCD form a line and are in that order)

Answer:

bc= bd + CD

x+16= 4x- 14=18

× -4×=14-16+18

-3×= 16

3x/-3 =16/-3

x= - 5 1/3
